Heritage Week 2019 – Charles Fort

To celebrate National Heritage week we are delighted to invite people of all ages to attend our free special heritage events at Charles Fort, Kinsale.

There is free admission to all visitors on Sunday 18th August & Sunday 25th August 2019 from 10am with last entry at 5.15pm.

Sunday, 18th August 2019

This Sunday, 18th August, we extend a warm welcome to children and families who enjoy, arts & crafts, music and discovering and exploring their local heritage.

From 12.30pm to 4.30pm our Gunpowder Magazine will be transformed into our arts and crafts Mask Decorating design studio.  Suitable for children under 12 years.  No booking required.  Children can have fun colouring and transforming their princess, animal, monster or super hero masks into bejewelled, brightly coloured and quirky pieces of art.  Or why not try our MAD Trail.  A monsters and dragons themed treasure trail – fun for all the family.

At 3pm local young musicians will enliven the fort with a traditional musician session.  All are welcome to attend and enjoy the sounds of traditional tunes and airs within the walls of our historic fort.  For those who enjoy a more relaxed Sunday, why now sit down at our cosy tearooms and absorb the stunning views of Kinsale harbour.

If you are interested in learning about the history and stories of Charles Fort we will have Free guided tours at 10am, 11am, 12 noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.  Shorter introduction talks at 1pm and 5pm.

Sunday, 25th August 2019

On Sunday 25th August we will extend a warm welcome to all to visit and enjoy our second free heritage Sunday at Charles Fort.  An exciting display of ground archery will be sure to delight visitors of all ages.  This event will take place on our main parade ground.  Displays will take place at 12 noon, 2pm & 4pm.  Free guided tours will also be available where you can learn about life as a soldier and an officer within the British army.

Or why not try our MAD Trail.  A monsters and dragons themed treasure trail – fun for all the family!
