With beautiful scenes that meander on the edge of Kinsale’s picturesque harbour and bring you to the heritage site of Charles Fort, Kinsale’s Scilly Walk is anything but!

This loop walk which equals a roundtrip of 6km showcases Kinsale in all its glory. Click Here To View A Map Of Scilly
Set off from the town and walk down Lower rd. which will take you to the bottom of a hill leading to Man Friday.
TOP TIP: If you’re making a day of it book yourself in for a delicious lunch at the Man Friday or finish your loop here and have dinner, their menu offers top quality food and wine and in the summer their decking area is the perfect vista for viewing the town.
From Man Friday walk down hill, you’ll turn a corner to be greeted by the glistening waters of Kinsale’s Harbour. The walk continues on the water’s edge giving you a front row seat to the town’s most beautiful and historic sites. You’ll have a stunning view of the town and the forts that remain from the famous Battle of Kinsale; Charles Fort and James fort.
Take in the sites and relax at the seating points littered on the walk (from where you will often spot seals, herons, cormorants and if you’re very lucky the occasional dolphin!), breathe in the fresh sea air and stare out to the horizon.
Continue your walk under towering trees surrounded by lush plants and flowers and you’ll eventually find yourself at the bottom of a steep hill, trust us the struggle is worth it!
At the top of the hill you can either take a left which will take you up High Rd. and back towards the town or you can take a right down the hill which will bring you to the Bulman and Charles Fort.
TOP TIP: walk to Charles Fort and do a tour of this amazing historical site that is one of the country’s largest military installations. Take some time to walk around the Fort and take in the spectacular views, work up an appetite and walk back down to the Bulman for an incredible gourmet dinner finished off with a refreshing pint on the wall overlooking Kinsale Harbour and prepare yourself for even more stunning panoramas on your stroll back to town from High Rd.
High Rd. will take you above Scilly where you began your walk, from your elevated position you’ll see Kinsale, the harbour, the bridge, James Fort, Charles Fort and the horizon. Attracted by the amazing view this area is dotted with luxurious homes and is sometimes referred to as “millionaire’s row”. On High Rd. you will find a viewing spot that offers the best views in Kinsale (and in our opinion Ireland!).
This walk, loved by locals and tourists alike, is a “must-do” in Kinsale. No matter how many times you walk this loop it still has something new and beautiful to offer as it changes with the seasons.
