In a town full of instagram-worthy spots, Charles Fort remains a firm favourite. There are so many unique photo opportunities at this 17th century star-shaped military fortress. Explore the grounds and enjoy breathtaking views of Kinsale. From the site you can also gaze across to the iconic Old Head of Kinsale. This is the perfect place to capture your Wild Atlantic Way adventure!

For a town perched on the harbour’s edge, its not surprising that locals and visitors flock to the waterfront any chance they get! While your there, check out the 1601 Galleon Mast which was created to commemorate the Battle of Kinsale. Take a seat and watch as the fishing trawlers, sail boats and yachts make their way in and out of the harbour. A Kinsale favourite, the Mast is a focal point for many with breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding hills.

Kinsale has a very vibrant art scene that is packed full of rich culture and history. This is translated in the eye catching stoney steps which have been transformed recently to reflect the colourful asthetic of the town as well as its rich historical tapestry. The artists portray one of  Kinsale’s most famous mysterious women and a notorious pirate in the 1700s, Anne Bonny with the caption “Well behaved women seldom make history”! 

Kinsale is packed with street art-filled nooks and crannies waiting to be discovered by curious locals and visitors. Pictured here is a mural of Kinsale legend and famous poet Desmond O’Grady at The Spaniard Bar where he liked to frequent.  The mural was created for Kinsale Arts Weekend in 2021 by visual artist Ominous Omin (aka Barry Finnegan). It has added to the visual vibrancy of the area,  depicting O’Grady peering into a book and is set against a backdrop of blue skies and dramatic ship masts. You don’t want to leave Kinsale without capturing this!

No trip to Kinsale is complete without a selfie in one of Kinsales colourful streets! Behind every corner, you will be treated to brightly coloured facades and quirkey painted doorways. Get lost in the picturesque narrow winding paths and discover the hidden treasures of unique boutiques and quirky galleries before grabbing a bite to eat from one of our friendly local eateries. 

In a town full of Instagram-worthy spots, Market Lane remains a firm favourite. This brightly coloured corner of the town is filled with hanging flower baskets and is sun trap all year round! Many flock to hang out by the lantern and take shots of the stunning streetscape. In summer you can dine and drink al fresco and enjoy the relaxed vibes of the town. From Market Lane, it’s a short walk to Kinsale Harbour for more Instagram-worthy views.

Want to feel that salty sea air in your hair and take in some breathtaking sea views? Whether you’re in search of a kayak spot or somewhere to make sandcastles and have a picnic, The Dock Beach is the perfect place to be for an enjoyable day by the sea. 

The best way to get your bearings of the town is by checking out the views from Ardbrack View Point. The lookout has stunning panoramic views of Kinsale town, the harbour, the iconic landmarks of Charles Fort and James Fort and enchanting views of the water below. Take a scenic walk from Kinsale town or park up to enjoy the view!  It’s also one of the best spots for taking in a sunrise or sunset.

Sometimes all you need to reset is to breath in the fresh sea air and take in some incredible views. Something that always revitalises us is a trip to the Old Head. The stunning sea views from the cliffside and the power of the wind and waves will reawaken you and the neighbouring beaches of Garretstown and Garrylucas are the perfect places for a walk by the water and a great spot to watch wind surfers dance with the elements.
