Failte Ireland Launched a 5 Year Plan To Boost West Cork and Kerry Tourism

At the end of October Failte Ireland launched their detailed 100 page plan, The West Cork and Kenmare Destination and Experience Development Plan. This details their aims to support the tourism of the West Cork and Kerry regions.  For the last 2 years Kinsale was represented on the Steering group by the Kinsale Chamber of Tourism & Business and we’re delighted to see Kinsale featured so heavily in this plan.

Amongst the exciting proposals put forward is the plan to officially mark Kinsale as the start/end of The Wild Atlantic Way. Other exciting plans include boosting the many OPW attractions in the town and boosting its profile as an important centre of Irish history and to establish Southern sections of The Wild Atlantic Way Coastal Path by developing a route from Kinsale to Ballydehob.

Cork to Kinsale Greenway

At the beginning of November Cork County Council announced a significant milestone in the development of the Cork to Kinsale Greenway with the appointment of consultant, Arup, as technical advisors to oversee the initial design phases of the project from Phase 1 Concept and Feasibility to Phase 4 Statutory Process.

Funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the €2.6million contract offers a significant opportunity to develop a safe, scenic, off-road route that will connect communities between Cork and Kinsale with a convenient and enjoyable means of travel. It will also support broader West Cork greenway plans and will connect with developments such as the Cork City to Viaduct Greenway.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn welcomed the commencement of the first stage of the project:

“The Cork to Kinsale Greenway further demonstrates our dedication to fostering sustainable transport solutions and enhancing the quality of life for our residents and visitors. On completion, the Greenway will provide a safe and easily accessible corridor for cyclists and pedestrians, while preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region.”
