Bagatelle remain one of Ireland’s most iconic touring bands from the 1980s, best known for their timeless hits and unforgettable live performances. Their signature track, Summer in Dublin, written by the late, legendary singer-songwriter Liam Reilly, continues to resonate with fans across generations.
Liam was the creative heart of Bagatelle, writing many of their beloved songs, including Trump Card, Second Violin, Leeson Street Lady, She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, All Fall Down on Philadelphia, and Raining in Paris. He also crafted some of Ireland’s most celebrated emigration songs—Streets of New York, Flight of Earls, Boston Rose, Bainbridge Avenue, and If You Ever Come Back from England—which remain favourites among Irish communities worldwide.
Formed by the late John O’Brien, Bagatelle’s original lineup also co-wrote hits like Love Is the Reason and built a catalogue that earned Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum awards. Their music has featured internationally, from Ireland and the UK to the US, Hong Kong, Macau, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
In 1990, Liam Reilly represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest with his self-penned ballad Somewhere in Europe, achieving a remarkable second place—a milestone that still stands as a testament to his talent.
Though Ireland lost Liam on 1 January 2021, his songs—and Bagatelle’s enduring musical legacy—live on.
