Special Olympics Polar Plunge (2019)
November 30, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm€20
Special Olympics Ireland is calling on you to get freezing for a reason and take the Plunge for local athletes this November (30th November 2019 starting at 10:30 am.)
Kinsale is set to host its third Special Olympics polar plunge and you’re invited. Garda Moran and Garda Ryan, from Kinsale Garda Station, recently teamed up with Polar Plunge mascot Bear Chills and Special Olympics Athletes to ask you to join them at Kinsale’s Main Pier on Saturday 30th November 2019 at 10.30 AM and help support local athletes.
Special Olympics athletes constantly step up to the challenges they face, to compete in a sport they love. We nominate you to challenge yourself and to experience the exhilaration of plunging into the icy cold seawater. Are you brave enough?
“Every day, Special Olympics athletes face challenges that living with an intellectual disability puts in front of them. We believe in Special Olympics that Sport doesn’t build character, it reveals it. Through the hard work Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, coaches, and families put in, resilience and confidence is revelled and the playing field is leveled. Help us to continue to revel inspiring people in your community to overcome some of the challenges faced by people with an intellectual disability by taking on a challenge of your own.” said Munster Regional Director of Special Olympics Ireland, Eóin Ó Béara. “The Polar Plunge is fun and open to everyone, families, businesses, schools, and individuals! Fancy dress is encouraged and it is sure to be incredible and dare I say, festive atmosphere on the day.”
Those who think they are brave enough to take the Polar Plunge can register at http://www.specialolympics.ie/polarplunge. Early bird registration costs just €15 and €20 from November 3rd with plungers asked to go one step further in their support by fundraising an additional €50 to support local athletes.
Funds raised through the Polar Plunge will go towards the continuation of the Munster programme which serves 1,624 athletes in 60 clubs.
These events would not be possible without the Law Enforcement Torch Run, An Gardaí Siochána, volunteers and the 10 incredible athletes organising the event through Special Olympics Athlete Leadership programme.
